If We Were a Bible Character – Nabal
If we were a Bible character; our life, men had read.
From the pages of Scripture, just what would be said?
If God were writing our profile today,
To record in His Word; just what would it say?
We read God’s description of Nabal in the same verse where we read his wife, Abigail’s, description last week:
“Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.” I Samuel 25:3
What a sad way to be known by God! When I read this husband/wife description, I often wonder how Abigail was able to maintain her godly testimony with a “churlish” (rude; surly; austere; sullen; rough in temper; unfeeling; uncivil, selfish; narrow-minded; avaricious) husband. To me, it is an example of the wonderful grace of God! No matter what circumstance we may face, when we are totally relying on God’s strength and not our own, His grace is all-sufficient!
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” II Corinthians 12:9
