“Who Can Tell If God Will…”
(Below is the third and final part of a writing assignment I had before graduation. I hope it is a blessing. The first and second parts can be found under “Homeschooling”.)
“Who can tell if God will…” Jonah 3:9
We never can tell what God will choose to do in one’s life. God has a special plan for all of His children. In fact, before we were conceived, God knew us and had already designed how our life would be:
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
Knowing this, we must simply trust Him and the plan that He has chosen for us. We shouldn’t sit around and critique everything God chooses to do in our lives. For, just as we would think it absolutely terrible for a little child to question his/her parent’s authority in their life, so it is with us as children of God. How arrogant it is that we (but the dust of the ground), would question our Creator! Romans 9:20,21 says,
“Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?”
We, as God’s children, are likened to clay in the hand of a potter; that Potter being Jesus Christ. He molds us and makes us as HE wills! Jeremiah 18:4 – “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
Understanding this, why would we ever again be guilty of questioning God or NOT trusting the plans He has for us? We can rest assured, that He wants only the best for us! Did you notice the last phrase of Jeremiah 18:4,
“…as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
We will never find God giving us His second-best! There may be times where, at first, it may not seem “good” to us, but we must learn to wait and trust Him as He is at work in our lives.
“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10
Stand still and let God move! I’ll admit, I have felt the questions flood into my mind like, “Life was good, why all these sudden changes?” But, I was yet to see that, through those “sudden changes”, God was only giving me something much bigger and better!!!
Such was the case with Mary and Martha when their brother, Lazarus, died. They, very much heartbroken, questioned Jesus saying, “…Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” John 11:32 However, they were about to see a HUGE MIRACLE unfold through their lives!!! It is quite evident that Jesus loved them so much to have chosen them through which to do something miraculous! What an awesome, loving God He is!!!
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” I Corinthians 2:9
As God continues to work His will in my life, I can’t help but see the great, great love He has for me! I can truly testify to you that,
“This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.” Psalm 118:23
