Right Responses

(Anna is guest-posting today. The following was taken from her Bible journal.)

Today, I shared from Proverbs 15:23,  “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!”  In Sunday School, we’ve been learning about having the right responses. We see here in this verse that good responses bring joy! Our responses can be either good or bad. In verse 28 of this chapter, it says, “The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.”  The righteous study before they answer. They think before they speak. When someone tells them something, they prove it as true before they believe it and repeat it. But, it says that the foolish pours out foolishness. They don’t think before they speak; they just pour out what they think.  “A fool uttereth all his mind…” ~Proverbs 29:11 To make sure that our responses are right, we need to think about them before we speak. In Deuteronomy, it tells us to enquire, search, ask diligently if it be true,  “Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain…”  Proverbs 18:13 says,  “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”  If we answer before we know all the facts, it could bring us shame. What if we’re wrong? To prevent from being shamed, we need to think before we respond. Study to answer!
