Tunnel Experiences
“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom
The fact that my husband and I were both born and raised in WV has meant many trips back home over the last 33+ years. When our children were young, one of the highlights for them was driving through the two tunnels in VA. Just the anticipation of a tunnel up ahead was good for keeping the little ones fairly content for a while on their long ride. We were able to relive that tunnel excitement recently when we took Courtney and the GRANDbabies up for a quick WV visit. Watching their little eyes grow big as we entered the darkened path, and then cheers while driving back into light brought back some sweet memories.
As Christians, we can liken our trials to those tunnels. Even though James 1:2 tells us to, “…count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations”, I must admit that I am not quite to the place where I eagerly anticipate the tunnels. BUT, while thinking about it this afternoon, one thing I can say without reservation –
“Tunnel experiences sure do make us appreciate that light at the end.”
“…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
