Provision
~ Where God guides, He provides. ~
I am always reminded of the above truth when I read of Elijah in I Kings 17.
“And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” I Kings 17:9,10
The widow woman had already been commanded to provide for Elijah’s needs. His job was simply to obey. Elijah was a man who was “in tune” with God. We see that evidence a few verses earlier when God is giving him specific orders:
“And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
Get thee hence,
and turn thee eastward,
and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” I Kings 17:2-4
Once again, the commandment had already been given for Elijah’s sustenance – this time to the ravens!
Verse 5 tells us Elijah’s response to God’s orders – “So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord…”
Not only did God give specific orders, but Elijah’s obedience was precise – “according unto the word of the Lord” One thing we can know for sure, God will never lead us contrary to His Word. His leading will always be “according unto the word of the Lord” and when we are in tune with Him, we can be assured of His leading as well as His provision!
