Grace – For Every Trial…Every Mile
I received a call last night from my sister, informing me of some sad news our mother had received. As I called Mom to check on her, as well as offer words of comfort, it wasn’t long into the conversation before she began to praise the Lord – “We serve a great God…If it weren’t for the Lord’s mercies, etc.” All I could say was, “amen…amen Mom…that’s right…amen…” At 91 years of age, my mother was still experiencing the grace of God.
While thinking on that again this morning, the following verses came to my mind:
“Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” Psalm 71:9
“Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.” Psalm 71:18
Spurgeon’s notes on the above (taken from The Treasury of David) include:
{There is something touching in the sight of hair whitened with the snows of many a winter: the old and faithful soldier receives consideration from his king, the venerable servant is beloved by his master. When our infirmities multiply, we may, with confidence, expect enlarged privileges in the world of grace, to make up for our narrowing range in the field of nature. Nothing shall make God forsake those who have not forsaken him. Our fear is lest he should do so; but his promise kisses that fear into silence.}
What a comfort…what a blessing to ME, to once again witness my aged “soldier mother” experiencing God’s amazing and all-sufficient grace. To all the young people, young adults, middle-agers, etc – God is REAL. His saving grace is REAL. And that same grace is REAL for every trial we may face…for ALL our days. Praise the Lord!!
New Grace
All of grace is my story, All the way from earth to glory. Since by grace be lifted me from sin and woe. Living grace he has extended As on him my heart depended And he’ll give new grace when it’s my time to go.
Grace not yet discovered, Grace not yet uncovered, Grace from his bountiful store, Grace to cross the river, Grace to face forever. There’ll be new grace I’ve not needed before.
There’s been grace for every trial. There’s been grace for every mile. There’s been grace sufficient from his vast supply. Grace to make my heart more tender, Grace to love and pray for sinners, But there’ll be new grace when it’s my time to die.
Grace not yet discovered, Grace not yet uncovered, Grace from his bountiful store, Grace to cross the river, Grace to face forever. There’ll be new grace I’ve not needed before
