Having A Relationship With Your Parents That Pleases God
Our pastor recently preached a message directed toward our young people titled “Having A Relationship With Your Parents That Pleases God”. In that message, he instructed on several key points on the subject. One of the points he covered, that has been grossly misunderstood, was on “having the heart” of a child. Many times, when a child who has been raised in church goes wayward, the statement is made, “the parents just lost their heart” – as if to say it was somewhat the parents’ fault the child strayed.
Proverbs 23:26 “My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways”
In this passage, the plea was made for the child to give their heart to their parents. That is what God expects the child to do. As a matter of fact, there is equal responsibility placed on the child and the parents for the health of their relationship. If parents do not have their child’s heart, it is because that child has not given it to them or has taken it back. Too often, parents feel guilt over things like this that are out of their control. May God set those broken-hearted parents free with the truth of His word! And, may every young person, with parents who love the Lord, give those parents their heart!
