There Is Hope
“For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope…” Ecclesiastes 9:4
My mums that brightened our driveway have lost their beautiful colors and many times in recent weeks as I passed them while coming or going I would think to myself, “I really need to trash those”. But, as so often is the case, something more pressing would get my attention and so…the next time I found myself pulling out of the driveway, there they were – all brown and ugly.
This past week, once again I was pulling out and once again my eyes couldn’t help but glance over at those brown and ugly plants…only this time, I did a double-take. Something very small but very bright had caught my attention and as I stopped to look closer I realized it was one tiny yellow bloom.
As I drove on up to town that afternoon, my thoughts went to the above verse that reminds us as long as there is life, there is hope. For me, that little bloom served as an excellent reminder – although I could not see it at all, apparently there was a little bit of life left in that one plant.
Sometimes, we may be at the point of losing hope in a situation where all we can see is “brown and ugly”. To us, the circumstance seems to have been “dead” for quite some time. To us, we see no evidence at all of things ever changing. And, just as I was ready to trash those plants, we will be ready to give up and stop praying. But, it is in times like these that we must remember we cannot see what God sees. God can still see the possible when we can’t. He can see the life and as long as there is life, there is hope.
