Is “Santa Claus” Really Omniscient?
It’s hard to believe it is December 1 – but it is and this morning seemed to be a good time for a repost from October, 2014.

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man…” Romans 1:22,23
Before we know it, Christmas will be upon us and that has become more of a reality as the girls and I have been sifting through Christmas carols the last few days. This morning, as I read in Romans 1, I couldn’t help but think of a popular children’s song during this time of celebrating Christ’s birth. The chorus goes like this:
He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
The above chorus indicates that a corruptible man – Santa Claus – is all-knowing, but my Bible says that only God is omniscient. As Christians, should we not be offended at a person – make believe or not – who claims to possess an attribute that only belongs to a Holy God?
Santa Claus sees us when we are sleeping?? Santa Claus knows when we are awake??
No.
But God does.
“Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.” Psalm 139:23
Santa Claus knows if we’ve been bad or good??
No.
But God does.
“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3
“For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.” Job 34:21
“O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.” Psalm 69:5
Maybe there are some who have never thought about the above topic in this way. I admit there was a time when our older children were young and we didn’t. And, I realize that this is most likely not going to be a popular post, but that’s OK. I do believe, as Christians, we should be more concerned about what God thinks. Just some food for thought on this beautiful FALL Friday!
“Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!” Psalm 71:19
