Have You Ever Been Lost?
Today is my mom’s birthday and, Lord willing, the girls and I are heading up to WV in a little while to help Mom celebrate her special day! (shhhhhhh…it’s a surprise)
I had Mom on my mind a lot yesterday – not just because of her birthday, but because of what the Lord did in our Sunday morning service.
As our pastor started to tell us where to turn in our Bibles, an individual stood up and began to testify and thank God for saving them. When they sat down, another person stood up to do the same thing…followed by another, and another, and another, etc. Our morning service consisted of many testimonies – most of them simply sharing once again the grace of God in their lives. As I listened to each of their testimonies, although they certainly varied in WHERE they were saved and the AGE they were saved, they all had one thing in common. Each person had to first admit they were a sinner in need of a Saviour.
I have heard Mom say something many times – especially in the last few years:
“I had to get lost before I could be saved.”
I am very thankful to say that, for well over 60 years, Mom’s salvation has not “worn off”. In other words, when she finally “got lost” and admitted she was a sinner – she then put her complete trust in Christ to save her. And it has been my privilege to witness her love for the Lord all of my years. THAT is what happens when a person is truly saved.
This morning, in honor of Mom’s 94th birthday, I would like to ask a question:
“Have you ever been lost?”
My friend, if you profess to be saved yet have never realized you were lost, to begin with, from what did Christ save you? Only sinners need a Saviour. Yes, we are ALL sinners but the question is, have YOU ever humbled yourself and admitted that YOU are a sinner in need of a Saviour?
“Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Luke 18:10-14
