Tears
“Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him…” Hosea 12:4
The above verse, speaking of Jacob wrestling all night with the angel, touched my heart this morning – a reminder that God is affected by our tears. There is a song that comes to my mind – “Tears are a Language God Understands”.
In II Kings 20:5 we read another example of this:
“Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.” II Kings 20:5
God not only heard Hezekiah’s prayer…He saw his tears.
When grievous trials come our way, there is a danger of allowing that time of affliction to harden our hearts and thus “lose our tears”. That is something that I fear – to the point of praying, “Lord, I don’t want to lose my tears…Lord, keep me tender through this”.
This morning, have you allowed an extended trial to harden your heart and thus rob you of your tears? Ask the Lord to give you your tears back. Truly, tears are a language God understands.

Often you wonder why tears come into your eyes
And burdens seem to be much more than you can bear
But God is standing near, He sees your falling tears
And tears are a language God understands.
God sees the tears of a brokenhearted soul
He sees your tears and hears them when they fall
God weeps along with man and He takes him by the hand
Tears are a language God understands.
When grief has left you low it causes tears to flow
When things have not turned out the way that you had planned
But God won’t forget you His promises are true
And tears are a language God understands.
God sees the tears of a brokenhearted soul
He sees your tears and hears them when they fall
God weeps along with man and He takes him by the hand
Tears are a language that my God He understands
