Unforeseen Circumstances

Just a few weeks ago, I would not have guessed that this would be a common sight across our nation…

This little notice from our local grocery store tells me that I’m not the only person that didn’t see this coming…

While empty shelves were probably the last thing on all of our minds a few weeks ago, there is another unforeseen circumstance that all of us will face one day. Hebrews 9:27 reminds us:

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Unless we are taken by the rapture (those who have trusted in Christ as Saviour), all of us will eventually face death. The thing about death is, that none of us know when it will knock at our door. I don’t mean to sound morbid or depressing this afternoon…but that is reality. Proverbs 27:1 so clearly tells us:

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

My question this afternoon is, are you prepared for the unforeseen circumstance of death? Empty shelves in a grocery store may be a temporary inconvenience and possibly a challenge – but death is final. The unexpected pandemic that has resulted in “out of stock” items will soon pass and shelves will once again be full, shoppers will once again have plenty of choices and everyone will go back to living as before. But, death is not just an inconvenience that will soon pass – death is final.

Please believe me…I am by no means making light of the current challenges our country is facing. But, oh my – to show more emotion and panic over an empty shelf than one’s eternal destiny is very tragic. My friend, if you are reading this and have never made preparations for your eternity, won’t you do so today? God is giving you one more chance to humble yourself before Him, repent of your sins, and trust in Christ alone to save you. Please don’t delay! Please make preparations today!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
