Having a Right Attitude Toward Our Enemies

We’ve been listening to Faith Music Radio today and, while cleaning the kitchen awhile ago, Gayle Edward-Sandra Russ broadcast was on. At one point, the discussion was Jonah and his attitude toward the people of Nineveh. Simply put, Jonah was mad at God for showing mercy to the Ninevites and giving them opportunity to repent. Why was Jonah upset? Because the Ninevites were enemies.

Here’s a thought that immediately came to my mind:

We need to be careful with our attitude toward those who have wronged us – no matter how deep the hurt may be. To my knowledge, after the book of Jonah ends, this prophet is never heard of again.

I certainly wouldn’t want God to put me up on a shelf – never to be used again – all because of a wrong attitude toward enemies. If our heart’s desire is to do right, God promises that His grace will be sufficient. Amen!

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:43-45
