Shining for Jesus!
Before Covid, a highlight of Mom’s week was going down to the local senior center on Wednesdays to play hymns for a sing-along. She took this small “ministry” of hers very seriously as she combed through her hymn book each week and wrote out several copies of a list of songs for the people to sing.
During these many months of everything being shut down, it has been hard for me to watch her lose her enthusiasm and “drive”. I know it has not been an easy time for any of us but my heart has especially gone out to the elderly as the little things they had looked forward to each week were taken away from them. One thing that I have prayed for during this time is that the Lord would encourage Mom and show her that she still had purpose in life.
The other day, while at Kroger’s with Mom, we heard that the senior center had opened back up! It didn’t take much encouragement from me to convince her to call and see about playing the piano. Later, I found her going through her hymn books and discussing possible songs with Bethany.
It wasn’t long before she was sitting down at her piano (the one she brought with her from Kansas almost 70 years ago) and practicing. I haven’t seen her sit at the piano in a good while.
This past Wednesday, we took Mom down to the center where she, once again, had the opportunity to “shine for Jesus” as she often encourages us to do. I’m so very thankful – thank you, Lord!!
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
