🏹 Anxious Arrows 🏹
“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:4,5
In the above verses, children are likened to arrows. As Christian mothers, we must be diligent in preparing the arrows God has entrusted to us via teaching (by word and example), disciplining, training, guiding, counseling, etc. as we pray earnestly for their salvation and complete surrender to God’s will for their lives. With eternity in mind, our desire for each of our children should be that they become sharp instruments that God can place in HIS bow to aim at HIS target – whatever that may be.
It is not up to us to decide WHEN God should place our arrows (in reality, HIS arrows) in His bow. Only God knows His purpose for each of our children’s lives and He knows the preparation needed to fulfill that purpose. Because this will vary from one arrow to another, we must resist the temptation to compare arrows. Comparison can, among other things, lead to worry and impatience. I’m afraid that, at times, mothers especially can get anxious about their children’s futures. This anxiety-turned pressure may result in the premature shooting of arrows – often toward relationships, further education, careers, etc. that were not God’s intended target.
Mommas, let’s not be guilty of creating anxiety in the quiver (and thus anxious arrows) due to our own lack of trust in God. He knows where each of our children are and His timing is always perfect. Instead of bending to societal pressure – yes, even in Christian circles – let’s encourage our children to trust GOD with their future. We never know when God…The Archer…will reach down to pick up HIS surrendered arrow. May our children be ready and willing to “fly” when that time comes.
