Verbal Abuse
“Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words will never harm me.”
The above little ditty may sound cute but, according to God’s Word, it is far from true. If you have ever been the victim of verbal abuse, you will readily agree. How very thankful I am for the healing an individual can receive from our loving Heavenly Father!
Mommas, if you are a victim of verbal abuse, please protect yourselves and your children. ❤️🩹 On the other hand, if you have a problem with controlling your own angry tongue, seek Godly counsel. Don’t subject your children to this harmful environment. 😢
For safety’s sake, we wouldn’t think twice about protecting our families as well as ourselves from a convicted murderer. Nor would we shame others for doing the same.
But what about a “killer tongue”?
Verbal abuse is real, folks. Exposing ourselves or our children to continual degrading, slanderous, belittling, sarcastic, derogatory, etc. speech is like dying a slow death.
A spiritual death. An emotional death.
Even, in some cases, a physical death.
A toxic “killer tongue” should be regarded as a danger from which we seek protection.
Without hesitation. Without shame.
“Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah…let us smite him with the tongue…”
Jeremiah 18:18 KJV
“The scourge of such tongues will give not only smart lashes but deep wounds.”
~ Matthew Henry
