Faith,  Fear,  God's Word

Feeding Our Faith

If I could name one thing that I believe the Lord has desired to teach me in recent years it would be the importance of feeding our faith and not our fears.

Last week, I was given a CD of a message preached by the old-time preacher, Percy Ray. The title of the message is:

“I Would Have Loved To Have Been There; I WAS There”

Throughout the message, Br. Ray talked about different miraculous Biblical accounts that he wished he had been there to witness. But then he followed up on each of these accounts with his own story of seeing God’s mighty hand in the ministry God had given him!

The sad reality is, many Christians live in the “I wish I had been there” state of mind – never realizing that the God of Gideon and Daniel and Elijah and the three Hebrew young men, etc. is the SAME God today! Many Christians, instead of going forward in faith to see their own stories of God’s deliverance, spend their lives looking back and longing for something they could possess for themselves – God’s mighty hand at work in THEIR lives!

I was talking with my son-in-law last week and telling him about the message I had listened to. He shared with me a quote from a seasoned church planter that he has adopted for the ministry God has given him:

“Steps of faith lead to stories.”

The Bible says,

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Friends, we feed our faith by reading and listening to the Word of God.

Here’s my morning thought:
Have the words we read or listened to this week fed our faith or our fears?
Are we encouraged or in despair?
Are we convinced of God’s ability or depressed at the impossibility?

Remember, just like we choose what foods we put in our mouth, we also choose what “foods” we allow to enter our hearts via our eyes and ears.

Do we desire for our faith to grow?
Let’s be sure to choose our “food” wisely.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“…when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:8 KJV
