Feeding Our Faith
If I could name one thing that I believe the Lord has desired to teach me in recent years it would be the importance of feeding our faith and not our fears.
Last week, I was given a CD of a message preached by the old-time preacher, Percy Ray. The title of the message is:
āI Would Have Loved To Have Been There; I WAS Thereā
Throughout the message, Br. Ray talked about different miraculous Biblical accounts that he wished he had been there to witness. But then he followed up on each of these accounts with his own story of seeing Godās mighty hand in the ministry God had given him!
The sad reality is, many Christians live in the āI wish I had been thereā state of mind ā never realizing that the God of Gideon and Daniel and Elijah and the three Hebrew young men, etc. is the SAME God today! Many Christians, instead of going forward in faith to see their own stories of Godās deliverance, spend their lives looking back and longing for something they could possess for themselves ā Godās mighty hand at work in THEIR lives!
I was talking with my son-in-law last week and telling him about the message I had listened to. He shared with me a quote from a seasoned church planter that he has adopted for the ministry God has given him:
āSteps of faith lead to stories.ā
The Bible says,
āSo then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.ā
āāRomansā¬ ā10ā¬:ā17ā¬ āKJVā¬ā¬
Friends, we feed our faith by reading and listening to the Word of God.
Hereās my morning thought:
Have the words we read or listened to this week fed our faith or our fears?
Are we encouraged or in despair?
Are we convinced of Godās ability or depressed at the impossibility?
Remember, just like we choose what foods we put in our mouth, we also choose what āfoodsā we allow to enter our hearts via our eyes and ears.
Do we desire for our faith to grow?
Letās be sure to choose our āfoodā wisely.
āBut without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.ā
āāHebrewsā¬ ā11ā¬:ā6ā¬ āKJVā¬ā¬
āā¦when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?ā
Luke 18:8 KJV
