Sweeter With Age

If you would ask my youngest two children especially to name something that I tell them often, I believe they would say, “Be sweet”.

The older I get, the more I desire to become “sweeter with age”. In other words, I just want to grow old gracefully. ☺️ Am I always successful in this area of being sweet? Not hardly. 😔 But it is truly my desire and, more importantly, it is God’s will for each of our lives!

“But GROW IN GRACE, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Is it possible to be both old and sweet? 😁
Yes, absolutely!
But HOW can we grow sweeter with age?
By staying in God’s Word – the source of our sweetness!!

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭103‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We all know what we get when we squeeze a lemon. 🍋
My morning thought is this:

What comes out of us when we are tested…squeezed, if I may?
Sour or sweet words?

The Bible reminds us,

“…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Having our hearts filled daily with the sweetness of God’s Word will help us respond graciously to difficult people and circumstances that God allows in our lives.

May each of us desire, by God’s grace alone, to grow SWEETER as the days go by!

“Everyone who comes before us sets a little lesson for us. We say this person tries us. Well, that is just the reason we need to see him often – until we have learned to keep sweet.”
