Double Portions
Good afternoon! I thought I would let our readers know that we did indeed arrive safely home around 3:30am Sunday. It was a very long day…and night…but I am so very thankful for the Lord’s protection on us!
Last week, while in NM, we had a very generous visitor stop by. Better known as the stomach virus, this benevolent bug paid us a visit Sunday evening and gave the girls and I a bountiful portion of his “goods”. Apparently, he was so pleased with how well we received his first “gift” that he decided to come back by on Wednesday night for round two. Maybe it was a farewell present? This bout of sickness found Bethany and I in the motel room in Oklahoma City on Friday. We were just too sick to travel. (Thankfully, my husband somehow managed to escape his generosity!)
The few folks who were aware of our malady were so kind to send encouragement via text…words such as:
Bless your hearts!
That’s horrible!
Praying for y’all!
So sorry y’all are having to experience this!
Let me tell you, we truly appreciated their prayers!
Now, I don’t share our experience here on the blog for sympathy. Although a week of the stomach bug was not something we would have chosen for our vacation out west, we know the Lord allowed it for a reason – and God’s way is always best. However, the whole experience has caused a simple thought to run through my mind today.
When folks heard the news of the “double portion” we had received from our “benevolent bug”, their response was not:
That’s great!
Wow, what a blessing!
God is good!
Amen…praise the Lord!
Rejoicing with you!!
No. As you read earlier in this post, their response was quite the contrary. So, here’s my simple thought:
If an individual were to receive a double portion from us, what would be the general reaction of others?
Wow, what a blessing!
OR
That’s horrible – praying for you!
As Elijah was getting ready to leave this earth, Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit to be upon him. I wonder…spiritually speaking, is there anything about us that others would desire?
“And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” II Kings 2:9Â
